Association of Consultants and Specialists in Restorative Dentistry
The Consultant Restorative Dentist will sometimes be able to remove faulty bridgework, establish a diagnosis and return the patient to the Practitioner with advice to enable him to satisfactorily replace the bridge. Initial treatment of patients with functional disturbances in the masticatory system with temporomandibular joint and myofacial pain may be undertaken by the Consultant with maintenance by the General Dental Practitioner. Patients with learning difficulties may need help from the hospital with aspects of their treatment.

In major operations on the mouth, striking advances have been made in recent years in the techniques of repair and reconstruction, particularly with the use of grafts and implants. Frequently, however, this places an even greater reliance on highly skilled restorative dental work.
