Association of Consultants and Specialists in Restorative Dentistry
Where possible, advice is provided by the Consultant for treatment to be undertaken by the patient's own dentist. In some circumstances, however, components of more complex management or treatment are carried out in hospital. Examples include aspects of management of patients with dental trauma, the more severe alveolar and palatal clefts, hypodontia, congenital dental abnormalities and some endodontic procedures.

The treatment of advanced periodontal disease may be best managed by close co-operation between a Hygienist, Dental Practitioner and Consultant. Management of people with difficult prosthetic problems can be facilitated by modification of the existing prostheses to assist the Practitioner in their satisfactory replacement.
